It was July 21, 2010 when I was tasked to host Gerald Anderson’s mall show at SM City Batangas. Who am I to miss this?

I must admit this is one great gig I would forever be grateful for. It was my first hosting gig at SM City Batangas and having one of the country’s most coveted actors with me was one elating experience. When I first went on stage, as Gerald prepares for the show back stage, camera flashes welcomed me. Hey, I’m no celebrity!

I was thinking maybe they thought I’m from ABS-CBN (Gerald’s mother network) or something. Haha! But Gerald’s fans were all nice they patiently waited for him until the clock tick in time for his appearance.

Geez, sharing the stage with now hunky Gerald Anderson wasn’t an easy task as I tried my best to hide how kilig I am to stand beside him and talk to him and look into his eyes and endure all those shrieking of his fans. Whew!

A lot of girls (even guys) were teasing me for being so lucky to host the show. Comments rushed in my Facebook account when I uploaded the photos of the show. Gerald Anderson, check. Okay, who’s next?

Kim Chiu Mall Show, SM City Batangas

Equipped with my DSLR and laptop, I was ready to cover Kim Chiu’s mall show (for a usual WOWBatangas task) one Sunday afternoon. I arrived early then so I decided to watch a movie before the 5pm event coverage. But even before reaching the story’s climax, I received this message from Ms. Lina, the then Marketing Officer: “Hey, Gerlie do you know someone who could host Kim Chiu mall show later at 5pm?” Because it’s already 4pm, i replied: “I know some friends in Lipa who could do the job perfectly but they’ll be late for its already 4. If you’ll find no one who could do the hosting later, well i guess i can do it.”

And so, look at the photo and guess what happened next… Aha, I hosted the event!

Raylan and May Wedding

This wedding is a fusion of old and new. We coordinated with Raylan, which is kind of unsual since it’s the bride who normally takes care of the wedding preparations.

Raylan put up a website dedicated for their wedding. He wants gimmick for the wedding reception so we thought of games for people to enjoy. But the couple was reminded to still include old wedding traditions such as eating of rice cakes, sharing a bottle of drink, and throwing of rice grains and flower petals all done before they enter the reception hall.

Gerlie and I both enjoyed this wedding. At some point we both don’t know what to expect but it turned out to be one of the best hosting gigs we’ve done so far. And for a wedding, it was even more special.

The wedding was held on June 5, 2010. The wedding ceremony took place at the Redemptorist Church (the couple was fortunate to have the permission to be married in this church) followed by the reception at Luntian Resort and Restaurant, San Sebastian, Lipa City.

Vision Feedmills Corp. 15th Anniversary, Lima Park Hotel

Six pm of June 26, Dyan and I were kinda puzzled about what’s going to happen in the Vision anniversary celebration. We didn’t receive any copy of program and we were only told to host the event an afternoon before the celebration. Oh, quite challenging huh! All we have at hand were some sheets of paper and pens. Good thing we’re early birds.

Of course after arriving at Lima Park Hotel, we seek for the program copy right away. Super thanks to Tita Beth, one of the company’s shareholders, who prepared all as in all the things that we need for an organized program.

Though the program lasted for hours, we didn’t get tired for we both enjoyed hosting the event. By the way, while we’re gleefully hosting the program, we were also manning the live streaming coverage of the celebration on WOWBatangas.com (astig di ba?)

National Book Reading Day

Hosting this event was quite tough for me. Aside from the usual emcee tasks, the client also required me to do some story tellings before super kulit graders. Catching kids attention was really the hardest. Good thing those story books include visual presentations that kids enjoyed.

The event was National Book Reading Day headed by SM Supermalls and Vibal Publishing house. The audience were grade 1 and 2 pupils from different public elementary schools in Batangas City.

I didn’t know I would enjoy such task (story telling). Maybe because I love kids and of course, I love to see them happy and smiling.

Juris Album Tour, SM City Batangas

Juris is one of the country’s female artists who got the best-selling voice. She’s more popularly known as the other half of the acoustic duo who mesmerized us with their feel-good music and hit song covers.

Juris went to SM City Batangas last Sunday Aug. 15, 2010 (Ed’s note: date of publish was changed into an earlier one) to promote her latest album, her first since she went solo. I was the one who hosted her mall show. I’m a fan of Juris and I was just as excited as everybody else. It’s always an advantage when you know enough about the artist you’re hosting the show for. With Juris’ mall show, it wasn’t a burden to do some spiels to make the crowd wait patiently for Juris.

As the event host, you have to be flexible as there could be last minute changes on the flow of the program. Good thing that people really stayed to see Juris perform live. After all, it was worth the wait. She has that charming voice that probably pursued quite a number of people to actually buy a copy of her album right there on the venue.

Jhoenald and Gemma

Gemma and Jhoenald’s wedding was the simplest yet the most touching for me. I could feel their love for each other as exchange their vows and even after the wedding ceremony.

The couple had their reception at the bride’s place. The celebration, just like the Jhoenald and Gemma, was simple. We had the usual wedding program – the wedding tradition, some games and speeches and couple’s first dance. It was easy for me as a host to share some of the couple’s stories for we (Dyan and I) had a chance to bond Gemma and Jhoenald at BlueRoze months before the wedding.

So where’s the touching part? Well, it was after the celebration when I saw Gemma and Jhoenald bursting in tears as they bid good bye to Gemma’s parents and relatives. Couldn’t help but cry for everyone there was taking their hankies out, wiping their tears and hugging the couple. Oh such a lovely and touching scene. Priceless.
