Lip Balm 101: Health and Beauty Benefits

Summer months could be painful for some parts of your body. Like your lips. When the temperature’s on the extremes (extreme hot, extreme cold), your lips might be at risk. During this hot season, lips are prone to chapping, drying, and even sunburn. And lip balm is every girl’s (and should actually be everyone’s) best friend.

Lip balms are made of beeswax, petroleum jelly, menthol, camphor, and other various ingredients (wikipedia.org). I started using lip balm when I was in 5th grade. My aunt gave this deliciously flavored lip balm and since then, I had been enjoying the benefits of this lip saver (as others may call it).

ChapStick lip balmLip balms provide protective layer or covering on your lips as you apply ample amount of it on your kisser. In this way, your lips would have a shield from the dryness of the season. This product seals in the moisture on your lips preventing other damages that could be so ugly.

There are quite a number of brands which became famous through the years. There’s Chapstick (my all-time favorite), Burt’s Bees, Carmex, Vaseline, Nivea, Blistex, Merry Hempsters, and many others. Cosmetic lines eventually have produced their own lip balms. There are even some brands who manufacture lipstick and lip balm in one.

Lip balm evolved as time progresses. Now, there are a lot of yummy lip balm flavors to choose from. There’s strawberry, chocolate, mint, etc. My personal pick is the cherry flavored Chapstick. This gives lip balm users a happier experience with the lip’s best pal. Aside from flavours, some lip balms today also come in pretty tints. Yes, this one’s for those who are not avid lipstick fans yet are relying on the protective benefits of lip balm without sacrificing the attractiveness of one’s smoocher.
