The AMA was created by Dick Clark in 1973 to compete with the Grammys after the move of that year’s show to Nashville, Tennessee led to CBS picking up the Grammy telecasts after its first two in 1971 and 1972 were broadcast on ABC. Nominations are presented in eight categories: Pop/Rock, Country, Soul/Rhythm & Blues, Rap/Hip Hop, Latin Music, Alternative Music, Contemporary Inspirational and Adult Contemporary categories. While the Grammys are awarded based on votes by members of the entertainment industry, the AMAs are determined by a poll of music buyers, and as a result is more of a representative of public opinion.

For this year 2009, American Music Award or AMA ‘09 transpired last night at Nokia Theater, Los Angeles CA. Taylor Swift and Michael Jackson were among the biggest winners for this year’d AMA.

The 58th Miss Universe 2009 (Bahamas) pageant will be aired live on NBC and Telemundo. Again, most beautiful women from 80 plus countries will vie for the most prestigious title, the Miss Universe 2009. Let us all watch out for the winners for this year’s Ms. Universe title.

Dayana Mendoza, the reigning Miss Universe from Venezuela will crown her successor upon the announcement of winners on the coronation night to be happened on August 23 2009. Since May 2009, Mendoza has been touring the world in great height. She traveled to four continents and been to numerous countries such as Russia, Bolivia, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Italy, Spain, France, Ukraine, Argentina, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Cuba, Vietnam and UAE. She also had a number of trips to USA. The six major sponsors of the show are BSC Swimwaer, Carlos Alberto, Diamond Nexus Labs, Farouk Systems, New York Film Academy and Nina Footwear. Donald Trump and Phil Gurin remain as the executive producer of the pageant.

Here in the Philippines, the much-awaited Miss Universe 2009 will be broadcasted live on ABS-CBN on August 24 at 9:30 a.m. A primetime telecast will be aired the same day via Velvet (SkyCable channel 53) at 8 p.m.

Catch the replays on Studio 23 on August 25 at 8 p.m.; ABS-CBN, August 27 at 10 p.m.; Velvet, August 26 at 8:30 p.m. and August 29 at 10 p.m.
